I read an interesting blog about “Online Success is About Telling Stories”. (May be a bit late to find this article :P) I believe everyone desire “to peek”. Weblogs allow people seeing others. The key is about the quality of content and how to impress your audience. Do you check how many visitors when you access your blog every time? People are not only desire to peek but also to flaunt him/her through the stories they are telling.
You are right. Yet sometimes people decide to push beyond the isolated, digital world and meet up with those they have encountered. I wonder if there is a specific set of stimuli or a particular kind of interaction which makes this outcome more likely?
Various social media let people closer. ICTs won't separate people but vice versa. "People go to bars is not simply to get a drink but the environment... Cities exist because of people like to be near other people." (Shirky C, 2008, P195) . New tools allow large groups to collaborate, practitioners have a responsibility to encourage ethical use of technologies.
My name is Joan, 34 years old, was born in Hong Kong and now I am working in Beijing. I am also a student of MSc in PR online programme at Stirling University. This is my second blog in my life, the first blog was dedicated to my daughter when she was born two and a half years ago. This time, I have the mission of the subject "Public Relations and Technology" to this blog. I am pretty excited to share my blog with anyone who is interested in my ideas regarding different topics.
