I wonder if there is a saturation point, beyond which the leaps in application development start to slow down? Perhaps the trend of mergers and buy-ups by big media players will change the whole dynamic? Advertising and too much of a hard-sell could kill the 'social' dimension.global villagerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03041360826921875182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780372507224004770.post-79829364534323013192009-06-01T11:58:35.331-07:002009-06-01T11:58:35.331-07:00I do agree with you Joan. Huh, not quite sure. Social networks...Never ending? Huh, not quite sure. Social networks will thrive as long as people have the time and infrastructure to log on and connect. In Africa, ICT is quite a challenge and coverage of the social media is limited to urban centres. Only recently has the mobile phone began penetrating the rural areas. Today's modern professional is extremely busy (or is it just me) and hardly gets time to make that meaningful contribution to social media. I am in facebook but I only write when I get time. Friends get upset that I don't reply to their messages as quickly as they would like and I don't get to write on my wall often. Is it alright to conclude those constantly and fanatically on these sites are those with the time to do it?Justahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16271300852093723634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780372507224004770.post-82671568962203808372009-05-30T01:58:46.266-07:002009-05-30T01:58:46.266-07:00It was really calmness and peaceful when I didn't ...It was really calmness and peaceful when I didn't turn on my cell phone, not wearing my watch, and not taking my notebook during the vacation. For my answer I considered some of the following: the definition of ethics and related theories; the role of ethics and communication in an organisational context; leadership, virtue ethics, legitimacy and corporate social responsibility. How can public relations contribute to organisational professionalism and ethical decision-making in such areas? Culture, sense-making and applied ethics are also frameworks to better understand organisational ethics and in turn, the role of public relations.Jantzen Williamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00348985956793382087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4780372507224004770.post-68176307780155815472009-05-28T23:15:54.960-07:002009-05-28T23:15:54.960-07:00Shirky sees 'an intense period of experimentation'...Shirky sees 'an intense period of experimentation' with new communication technology which would explain the blizzard of junk. Technology is about affordances in context of the environment and social needs. Today, cell phones, wifi and email are demanded due to the nature of our lives. We need them. We'd miss them if the power went down. But think about how technology is adopted and integrated. A generation ago they were saying the same thing about television (how could we live without it) and before that, the combustion engine! Most of companies here don’t stop this connection because it is really helps communication and data transmission from city to city, from region to region and from country to country.

I believe internet or instant messenger really tighten up humans relations and save time and cost. For instance, I am just too lazy to take my name card folder (over 1000 cards inside) and spend at least 1 min. to find someone I want to call. Thereafter, I need to check the phone number and press at least 8 digits dial to someone (how many digitals for overseas call then?). Finally, I can't reach him/her because he/she is not in the office or on the phone. Then I need to repeat my action again.. or again. Do you spend most of time on your phone or internet everyday?

From Instant Messenger, I can see the status of someone I want to contact or I can choose to leave a message, then he/she will response me instantly or once he/she is available. Nevertheless, technologies help our works going more efficient and effective as well as easily close to humans. I believe it is encouragement for work if employees handle well their time management. Do you encourage your staff and colleagues use internet ?

In such a modern decade, you are not only found advertisement in graphical, on TVs or radio. ICTs make contemporary advertisements more creative in different form, animation, pop-up, game for example.
